Off to Williamsburg!
Back in February, we hatched a plan with my parents to visit Williamsburg. As a child, I loved the American Girl Dolls - especially Felicity. My mom and dad took me on an “Educating Kate” tour where we visited Williamsburg and Washington DC as a child. I fondly remember the cobblestone streets and blacksmiths shop. It was like walking back in time with folks roaming around in period correct clothing. They even sold old fashioned children’s toys - mom bought me a hoop and stick that you could roll along the roads. I have no clue how that one made it home - we must have driven.
In an effort to show our kids as many states as we can, my primary goal of this trip was to check a few states off the list. When we zeroed in on the Fourth of July as our ideal timeframe for vacation, I thought “how festive to be there for July 4th!” We booked - only later to put 2 and 2 together and realize that this year was America’s 250th birthday! What a place to be!!
Our trip started in typical fashion - a lot of loads to the trailer (we only moved into our summer house 8 days ago!).
I dropped Lu at the airport at 4:00 am to head to Japan and we got on the road at about 11:30 only for me to realize I forgot my wallet! We pressed on because I didn’t want to make us turn the rig around in construction and traffic. I figured with Apple Pay, everything should be just fine.
First stop was Fayetteville RV resort and cottages. It was a cute little campground not far off the highway. We landed to discover that our fridge was no longer cooling. Mom and dad graciously let us out our sensitive food in their fridge overnight. We had stopped at Scott’s BBQ on the way in and had some yummy bbq for dinner. Char rode his balance bike around, we played mini golf and he enjoyed the playground and then a refreshing swim! The whole country is in a heat wave, so the swim was the perfect way to end the day.
In the morning, we had breakfast and packed up - heading to auto zone first. We swapped out a fuse (thanks Chat GPT) and the fridge came to life! Here’s hoping it will hold.
Now we’re heading 3 hours north to Williamsburg. So thankful to be back on the road.
