Back in the USA!


After San Carlos, we headed to Santa Ana.  We stayed at a nice desert campground with full hook ups.  The caravan had a final potluck dinner - which gave us the chance to eat up any remaining meat, dairy, and fresh fruits and veggies.  We had a campfire and debriefed by sharing our favorite memories and moments.  It was a fun way to close out the caravan. 


Our departure time for Nogales was 8 am.  We stopped by the banjercito to turn in our truck and trailer Temporary Import Permits and  Traveler's Visas.  About 15 minutes down the road, we reached the border crossing.  There was a bit of a line, but it didn't take terribly long to reach the front.  After a brief inspection of the truck and trailer, we were on our way!  We stopped at Walmart to restock on food and then drove about 20 minutes to Patagonia Lake State Park.  As it happened, the Four Corners Unit had an Airstream Rally going on this weekend!  We met up with our original wagonmasters and had fun telling them about the rest of the journey.  After they left, we wandered over to the rally briefly - 28 Airstreams in the next loop over from us!  We ate pizza and salad with Fred and Cheryl and had one final magnum ice cream bar before calling it a night.  We rolled out towards Marfa, Texas at 7:15 am this morning.  It's good to be back in the US but we adored Mexico and will cherish the experiences and adventures that this Caravan gave us!

La Paz

​ Yesterday the group had an organized city bus tour and lunch. The guide, Pamela, was adorable as spoke English very well.  We loaded up on a really nice bus and headed into La Paz. The tour started with a three story history museum.  A museum docent guided us through  - and the history covered early times through the Mexican Revolution. Next we walked next door to an old building that had once been a sanitorium, then prison and now a combined library and day care center.  The building was old and beautiful and we were told that it was haunted and had underground tunnels leading to the nearby mission.  The bus returned to the terminal and we walked around the city - stopping in the mission, some small  shops and then along the shoreline to lunch. frame off!

​ Stu and Dustin got the shell off and then cleaned off the frame. The condition was quite rough so now it’s off to a welding shop to get it repaired. Before Stu dropped it off, they cut the plywood for the subfloor.  We visited a flooring shop today to start to get a design palette together for the overall look. The frame repair should take about two weeks. A little progress day by day!   Choices, choices!

Tecate and Beyond

​ Our morning started early in anticipation of a  9 am departure. We rolled toward the dump station around 7:30 — after eating any remaining fresh produce before we crossed into Mexico. We were each assigned a placement number in the convoy and we use radios to communicate along the way.  The border crossing was fairly uneventful. They requested vehicle and trailer registration and did an interior and exterior inspection of the truck and trailer. We were given the green light and we followed three other trailers into Tecate. Mayhem quickly ensued as we were told by our local guide via radio communications to “take a right at the park”. We did as we were told, but the three trailers in front of us didn’t get the memo in time, so we suddenly found ourselves solo in Mexico with no real idea of where we were supposed to head.
