Cherry Picking Rally

We started our trip with a night at the Amana Colonies fairground. It was a great halfway point for our trip to Madison. Stu worked and the kids and I were able to spend the days with my sister and her family. Our dear Airstream friends, Tim and Patti, hosted us at their beautiful home. On Thursday after work, we headed up to Door County, WI for the Wisc-Up cherry picking rally. We stayed at Countryside Motel and RV in Sturgeon Bay and it was the perfect jumping off point for exploring Door County! 


The rally was a blast.  We went cherry picking on Friday morning - we picked a bucket of tart and a bucket of sweet cherries. My parents and I went up to The White Gull Inn and I enjoyed their famous Cherry Stuffed French Toast for lunch. Yum!  Next we stopped into Lautenbachs Orchard for everything cherry. Mom and I did a wine tasting and I bought a pie and Swedish  dish cloth. 


The group met at Starboard Brewery and then had a big dinner at Riley’s Point restaurant. We enjoyed some breaded walleye. After dinner, I pitted cherries for hours 🤣

The next day, we woke up and enjoyed the Sturgeon Bay farmers market. We came back to the trailer and got Stu for lunch at Kitty O’Rileys Irish pub. The food was excellent!  We just missed a big hail and rain storm in town. 


Charlie and I rode with friends Pam and Kelly and Terry and her husband and explored Egg Harbor. We reconvened with the group at Ed and Sandy’s house because of another storm coming through. They have an amazing setup!  The prior owner was a pilot and they converted the airplane hanger into an Airstream garage and home. Theirs an airstrip in the back and plenty of space for their three trailers. It was amazing to see. 


They provided an incredible bbq dinner and the evening ended with a competitive game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Jude was the champion from 2018 and somehow managed to win yet again!  We had a ball and laughed so hard.  Charlie was a riot too. He clapped and laughed and walked around. Sunday we had a great breakfast and packed up to head to the MN airstream park for the week. It was a fabulous rally!

a shell of what it once was

The renovation has begun in earnest and has so far consumed about five days.  Day one was removing furniture and saving all of it to make templates. Next came skin removal. After that, insulation was removed.  Stu and his friend built a wooden skeleton inside to give it strength when the “pull the shell” - meaning they’ll unbolt the frame from the aluminum dome. The frame is in pretty rough shape. It will need to be repaired at the very least.  The demo part has felt quick - we’ll see how rebuilding goes!

La Paz

​ Yesterday the group had an organized city bus tour and lunch. The guide, Pamela, was adorable as spoke English very well.  We loaded up on a really nice bus and headed into La Paz. The tour started with a three story history museum.  A museum docent guided us through  - and the history covered early times through the Mexican Revolution. Next we walked next door to an old building that had once been a sanitorium, then prison and now a combined library and day care center.  The building was old and beautiful and we were told that it was haunted and had underground tunnels leading to the nearby mission.  The bus returned to the terminal and we walked around the city - stopping in the mission, some small  shops and then along the shoreline to lunch. The city was very clean and had beautiful sculptures near the water.  Lunch was across from the beach and included delicious desert.  While we were touring, Stuart and two of our friends - Peter and Fred...

Thanksgiving at The Range

We had a shake down cruise to The Range for a week.  It's an Airstream only park and this was our fourth trip there.  (That makes us official "Range Repeaters") Sarah and Paul have spent years developing the property and they have done a stunning job.  My parents and some local Airstream friends joined us - and we ended up making some new friends too!  Kelly and Pam, new-ish Airstream full-timers were wonderful company and a wealth of information.  Taking advantage of several meals at the barn was one of the highlights of our stay - Thanksgiving dinner, Saturday morning breakfast and Saturday dinner.  The food was delicious and the company was even better.  Looking forward to more visits to the Range in 2022!
