Roswell, New Mexico: day 1

We checked out of the Amarillo KOA at 11 and headed to New Mexico!  We had a little excitement on the road as Stu heard a bump and noticed that Lucy's bike had wiggled off of the fork mounts - it flipped upside down, dinged the truck a bit and was hanging only by a strap -- so thankful that the strap held!  We dawned our neon vests and got it re-secured.

Despite the hour gained by heading west, the trip felt long.  Maybe just because of the later start.  We re-provisioned at Walmart in Roswell because we realized that check in at the state park wasn't until 4 pm.  We simply brought whatever food we had in PV at the time of departure - so we needed a few things to fill in the gaps.

We rolled into Lea Lake in Bottomless Lake State park right at checkin.  The campground host was a very jolly man from Michigan who fawned nicely over our rig -- said he would gladly exchange his wife and dog for our setup haha.

Stu, Jude and Pradit got the campsite all set up with twinkle lights and our propane fire and Lucy and I made tacos inside.  It was a beautiful night -- we are backed right up to the lake.  This may be one of our most favorite campsites yet -- which says a lot for our eight season of camping!

We had three happy campers (well five happy campers, actually) as we settled in for the night.  Tomorrow we'll explore all of the UFO and alien sights around Roswell.
