El Pabellon
Our day began with a 9 am driver’s meeting. The kids worked on schoolwork all morning and we all rolled out of the park around 9:30 am. Today’s drive took us 120 miles south on Mexico Hwy 1 also known as “the only one” (highway). Our convoy did a great job staying together for the four hour drive today. We use radios to communicate the whole time - and everyone has a set place in line. The lead car warns about upcoming traffic or road conditions and the tail gunner (last car) relays the message. It is all really efficient and helps everyone stay aware of what is going on. For example, if a car is passing on the left, the whole line will update with the progress to warn each trailer when the car is coming up on their tail. We also warn one another of “topos” - speed bumps of epic proportions.
We all tightened up our line as we were within 5 miles of our destination - it was a dirt road turnout. All 12 rigs rolled down the road and settled at beach side spots. There were 6 hook ups, so the first six rigs took those sites. The second six boondocked. We will switch up who gets the amenities as the trip progresses. We put our surge protector into our outlet and the 110 plug was reading 165. Our surge protector won’t let that high voltage go into the trailer because you could fry electrical components. One of our new trailerite friends were kind enough to lend us their regulator. They were on the last Airstream Mexican Caravan and bought an electrical booster/reducer. Sounds like something we should add to our arsenal.
We leave at 10 tomorrow morning, so no one bothered detaching their truck from their trailer.
This campsite is also steps away from the ocean! We let Buster off leash with two of his new doggie friends and he had a ball on the beach. He will sleep very well tonight.
We had a happy hour at five and then Stu grilled fish for fish tacos. The boys rode their bikes to the office for a bundle of firewood and made a fire while we cooked. We ended the night with s’mores and watched The Long, Long Trailer with Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez.
A fun day!
Tomorrow we will leave at 10 and boondock in a hotel parking lot in the desert. Should be an adventure!
I enjoyed meeting y’all on your great Mexican adventure! It’s fun keeping up with your journey so please keep on blogging! I’m wishing you smoothing sailing in your Land Yacht, Starflier! I’m only the lonely one here at Villarino campground and I love the solitude! Adolpho and his wife, Beline, are so nice I don’t want to leave.
